Student Behaviour and Conduct at Trinity Academy
We have very high expectations of our students at Trinity Academy as we believe that without excellent discipline, learning cannot take place. We care deeply for our young people and expect the very best of them in all aspects of school life. We deliberately build strong relationships between staff and students so that all students feel safe and celebrated.
Throughout the school day, there are many opportunities for students to show us they are ready for learning and have bought into our Trinity way of life. By paying attention and working hard during lessons and following our Trinity routines as they move around school, students show care for themselves and others in the school community.
As parents and carers of our students, you are an important part of the Trinity Academy community and all have a vital role to play in supporting your child to meet our high expectations. We know how important it is that your child is happy and settled at school, and so we ask that you ensure your child attends well, arrives on time, is well equipped and in full uniform everyday.
Supporting Excellent Behaviour and Ensuring Success
Alongside our highly structured sanctions and rewards system at Trinity, we also operate a Wave system of support and intervention to help students meet our expectations and thrive in our school community.
Sanction System
As in every school, when students meet our expectations we reward them, where they do not meet our expectations, we issue sanctions. We have recently reviewed our behaviour system following student, staff and parent/ carer feedback and made some changes.
How do Behaviour Points work?
Example 1:
Late to school = 1 BP
Talking at roll call = 1 BP
Incorrect uniform = 1 BP
3 BP = 30min after school detention same day
Example 2:
Late to school = 1 BP
Talking at roll call = 1 BP
Incorrect uniform = 1 BP
Forgotten DEAR book = 1 BP
Talking in corridor = 1BP
5 BP = 50min after school detention same day
Detentions
All detentions will be sat afterschool on the same day, with parents/ carers being notified by 3:10pm via ClassCharts if their child has a detention. There will be no exceptions to the same day rule. We therefore advise that you do not make any arrangements for your child before 4:10pm.
Phones
Trinity is a strictly phone free school, this includes other technology like smart watches and headphones. Phones should be off and in bags from the moment students walk through the gate until they leave the school site at the end of the day. This includes headphones/ air pods/ earbuds and also smart watches. We insist on this because we understand that phones distract students from their learning, are addictive and often lead to social issues between students. We also understand the importance of face to face interactions, without phones, during social times.
If a student’s phone is seen at any time on the school site, including in a pocket, it will be confiscated and a Removal will be issued (time in the Lincoln Room and a 50 minute after school detention) issued.
Confiscated phones will be held in reception where students can collect them at the end of the day. If a phone is confiscated for a second time in the same half term, parents/ carers will be expected to come to school and collect the phone.
If you need to pass on a message to your child/ children during the school day, please use the enquiries email or call our brilliant and friendly Comms team in reception. Please help your child to stay focussed on their learning and enjoy their social time with friends by not contacting your child on their phone during school hours.
Toilet Access
In addition to break and lunchtimes, students are able to use the toilet en route to their next lesson. Students are routinely released 2 minutes before the end of each lesson and have up to 3 mins before they are marked late to their next lesson. For example, lesson 1 will end at 9:48 and students will be ‘on time’ to lesson 2 if they arrive before 9:53.
Parents/ carers of students with a medical condition can request a toilet pass by providing medical evidence, please contact the enquiries email in the first instance.
